ISLAMABAD (APP) - Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf Thursday stressed the need for provision of affordable electricity to encourage foreign investment in services sector. Presiding over the first meeting of the joint hydropower public partnership committee here, the minister also called for strengthening collaboration between public and private sector for hydropower development. The minister said that the Hydropower Committee would provide an institutional mechanism for systematic development of this sector and facilitate the requisite coordination between stakeholders. Hydropower sector has the potential of generating thousands of megawatts which needs public resources and foreign investment, he added. It was decided that WAPDA would identify the potential hydropower projects and would submit to this committee for further course of action. The meeting also discussed various aspects of public private partnership for development of hydropower generation. The meeting was attended by MD, IPDF, Murtaza Satti, Chairman WAPDA, Member Water and other senior officials of WAPDA, PPIB, Ministry and IPDF.
