ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Peoples Party in a high-level meeting held under the chair of President Asif Ali Zardari finally decided to set aside the much talked about politics of reconciliation and pay back Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) in the same coin. Sources aware of the development informed TheNation that the hawks in the party had finally prevailed and were now in full command of the situation wherein a strategy was chalked out to hit back PML-N with full might in the days to come and the results of this shift from reconciliation to confrontation on part of PPP have started appearing on the political horizon of the country in shape of the aggressive speeches by the PPP stalwarts including Dr Babar Awan, Imtiaz Safdar Warriach and opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz. Sources further informed that PPP leadership has also contacted Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) leader Ch Pervaiz Elahi in this connection who was forthcoming to support the PPP in its endeavour to go for tit-for-tat to the confrontation course adopted by N-League. Sources further said that it was after the decision taken in this connection in high-level meeting at Presidency that former federal minister and close confederate of President Zardari Dr Babar Awan, PPP Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warriach and Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz were given go ahead to counter the PML-N propaganda and mudslinging against the ruling PPP. Sources in the party recalled that it was the strong desire and demand of Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) at the time of entering into alliance with the PPP-led coalition government that they should be given free hand to deal with the PML-N in Punjab and had also demanded the slot of Governor Punjab for Ch Wajahat Hussain, but President Zardari had politely declined the demand saying that they would continue their journey on the path of politics of reconciliation. But now President Zardari himself requested the Q-League leadership to come forward and help them in containing the confrontation course adopted by the N-League and the Q-League leaders were more than happy to assist them in confronting N-League in Punjab. Sources in PPP informed that PPP and its allies have already started unfolding its plan by pitching PPP leaders to start countering the allegations against the ruling alliance while in next phase the Q-League would come out side by side with PPP by holding public gatherings in the length and breadth of the province with the aim to dilute the PML-N plan and to mobilise general public against the Punjab government. The sources in the ruling alliance informed that President Zardari and his political allies just wanted to buy time for holding upcoming Senate elections in March next and if succeeded they would themselves announce the date for general elections. Sources in the party further informed that the main aim of the coalition government was to contain the expected agitation of the N-League, which would likely gain momentum in days to come, the PPP could use all available options including the floating of an idea of the new provinces to divert the attention of the people and to distract the PML-N expected movement against the rulers.
