Sindh to distribute 25,000 acres among women farmers

KARACHI - The Sindh government has decided to distribute 25,000 acres state land among the farmers especially women free of cost in the surrounding area of ‘Darawat’ Dam being constructed in Jamshoro district.This decision was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah here at the CM Secretariat on Monday.With attendance of Senior member of board of revenue of Sindh government Shazr Shamoon, Commissioner Hyderabad Division Ahmed Bux Narejo, Principal Secretary to CM Agha Jan Akhtar, Secretary Irrigation Sindh Babar Ali Effendi, Member (LU) BOR and others, the meeting reviewed progress of construction work of ‘Darawat’ Dam Project and distribution of government land among the farmers especially among the women in the area, which would be irrigated through water the dam. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister stressed the need for early completion of construction work of Darawat Dam, for which Wapda has to fulfill the needs. He said that Irrigation Department had to construct the reservoirs of water while Board of Revenue Sindh has to make assessment and survey of government vacant land in Jamshoro and Thatta districts. The meeting was informed that 25,000 to 50,000 acres of government land available in the area of dam in the district which can be distributed among poor and needy women farmers in that area. Qaim announced that each female farmer will be given 25 acres of land. He directed the Deputy Commissioners of Jamshoro and Thatta to invite applications from the poor farmers as a procedure under Land Grant Policy and open katcheries would be held for disposal of applications and grant of land to landless female farmers.The CM added that government has decided to cultivate the vacant land, for which land will be distributed among poor farmers preferably among the women farmers. He directed the Senior Member, Board of Revenue Sindh, Commissioner Hyderabad, Deputy Commissioners of Jamshoro & Thatta and other officers to complete the task of survey and assessment of land available there.In view of the directives of federal government, the Commissioner Hyderabad has been directed to form a committee comprised of Women MPAs of Hyderabad Division preferably of Jamshoro and Thatta districts which will supervise and monitor the assessment, survey and land distribution process. It was informed that the ownership of water reservoirs will be with the government of Sindh.
