LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif speaking at a high level meeting, yesterday, said that the target of 100 per cent enrollment of the children in school will be achieved by 2018.

He reviewed in detail the pace of progress towards achievement of Parho Punjab, Barho Punjab Programme under Punjab Schools Reforms Roadmap and decided to continue efforts for this purpose in a coordinated manner.

The chief minister said that the target of provision of quality education to every kid throughout the province will also be achieved through hard work and dedication.

He said that 25 lakh male and female children will be enrolled under voucher scheme of Punjab Education Foundation until 2018. He directed that special attention should be paid to the training of teachers for promoting quality education in the province.

He said that there is also a need to pay attention to the performance management. Shahbaz Sharif directed that Provincial Minister for Education and Secretary Schools Education should take personal interest in the quality training of teachers.

He said that provision of resources for promoting quality education is a useful investment in the future of Pakistan and there will be no shortage of funds for this purpose.

The chief minister said that attendance of teachers and students in schools has substantially improved, however, there is a need for monitoring of measures taken in this regard.

He directed that officers of district administration should personally monitor the target fixed for Parho Punjab Barho Punjab programme and provision of facilities in schools and submit a report in this regard. He said that funds of billions of rupees have been allocated during current fiscal year for the construction and repair of dilapidated buildings of schools and this process should be completed at the earliest.

He said that education target cannot be achieved without a system of reward and punishment, therefore, officers showing good performance will be encouraged while inefficient officers will be held accountable.

The chief minister further said that educational scholarships will be given to one lakh more deserving but talented children during next one year as this big programme of educational scholarships has provided opportunities of higher education to poor but talented boy and girl students.

Special representative of Department of International Development DFID Sir Michael Babar gave a briefing on the Programme and said that Shahbaz Sharif and his team has made commendable progress towards achievement of educational target during a short period.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the PML-N government is going to set new record of public service during its tenure.

Addressing the party legislators on yesterday, the chief minister criticised the last year dharna protest of the PTI and said the people of Pakistan would not allow anyone to play with the national interests and create anarchy in the country. He said that the PML-N victory in NA-122 has buried the allegation of so-called rigging.

The chief minister said: “The government has spent huge funds on development projects in Punjab during the last eight years to prove that it politics revolves around public service.”

The chief minister said the government is making round the clock efforts to eliminate terrorism, energy crisis and other problems. He said that service to the people and provision of basic amenities to the masses is the pivot of politics of PML-N. He said that new records of public service will be set in future.

Shehbaz Sharif said Army, security institutions and federal and provincial governments are united in the war against terrorism. The Chief Minister said that a historic Kissan Package of Rs 341 billion has been given for the development of agriculture sector and prosperity of small cultivators. He said that Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Roads Programme will bring a revolution in rural life.

Shahbaz Sharif said that the target of provision of potable water to the citizens will be achieved through implementation of Saaf Pani Project. He said that revolutionary measures have also been taken for the uplift of education, health and other social sectors.

He said that due attention has also been paid to the provision of economical, comfortable and safe transport facilities to the citizens. He said that work on orange line metro train project with 100 per cent Chinese investment has also been started.

He said that people of the province are fully benefitting from mega development projects worth billions of rupees. He said that elected representatives should strengthen contacts with the people and utilise all their energies for the resolution of their problems.

He said that assembly members should also play an active role for the promotion of atmosphere of peace, brotherhood and tolerance during Muharam-ul-Haram. MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif was also present on the occasion.
