Corruption probe starts against Adiala jail superintendent

LAHORE - The Anti Corruption Establishment (ACE) has initiated an inquiry against Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail Superintendent Malik Mushtaq Ahmad for his alleged involvement in corruption of millions.
Former Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr Arif Manzoor, in his application to ACE, had claimed that the level of corruption being committed in Adiala jail under supervision of Malik Mushtaq Ahmad was from four to five million rupees monthly.
Dr Arif alleged that Mushtaq was not only the sole beneficiary of the ill-gotten money but shared it with other high officials, sources in ACE told The Nation. The authorities have summoned the accused and the complainant to take up the issue seriously, the sources added.
According to the complainant, Mr Malik has been gathering more than Rs5 million from jail on monthly basis.
Sources informed that Dr Arif also disclosed to the Prime Minister and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) that the superintendent jail was providing with wireless V-sets to the hardcore inmates to mint money as the phone service is suspended by jammers installed at Adiala jail.
“The prison staff are committing this heinous crime at a sensitive installation just for money,” a source said, quoting Dr Arif.
Malik Mushtaq was unavailable for his comments.
