Pakistan reiterates strong opposition to use of chemical weapons

GENEVA: Pakistan has reiterated its strong opposition to the use of chemical weapons by anyone and under any circumstances.

Speaking in a debate on weapons of mass destruction in Geneva, Pakistan's permanent representative to the UN Tehmina Janjua said early elimination of stockpiles of chemical or biological weapons by possessor States is essential.

She said sensitive technologies and materials should be adequately controlled to ensure their use solely for peaceful purposes.

Tahmina Janjua stressed the need for restoring balance in the implementation of Chemical and Biological Weapons Conventions.

She said Pakistan is fully committed to ensuring the full and effective implementation of these conventions.
