Court adjourns contempt petition against Ahsan

LAHORE - The Lahore High Court adjourned an application filed along with record seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal till November 12.

The application was filed as an integral part of a writ petition which is pending adjudication before the LHC.

On September 10, the LHC discharged a contempt of court notice issued to the former interior minister over an "anti-judiciary speech" made in April this year. The court had announced its decision after accepting the apology tendered by the minister. He had stated that he had complete regard for the courts and always bowed down before the law.

The application filed by for Munir Ahmad through Azhar Siddiq Advocate states the media talk by Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, which was aired on almost every channel is placed at Enclosure-  AAA along with its transcript in Urdu and the links of contemptuous statements aired on different news channels.  It adds that the material clearly establishes that Mr Ahsan Iqbal has committed a contempt of court in term of Article 204 of the constitution.

The matter in hand is directly related to the writ petition, so, in view of these facts the matter may be decided by the court, it is submitted.

The petitioner prayed that the application may kindly be allowed and directions may very kindly be issued to Pemra for placing on record the news clips that were aired on different news channels in this respect. The above documents and transcript may be allowed to be a part of the record and the case may be decided in accordance with the law, in the interest of justice, equity and fairplay, he further prayed.
