ATHENS - A car accident occurred in northern Greece leaving 13 people, including 12 undocumented migrants injured, local media reported.

The accident happened on the Kavala-Saloniki roadway on Sunday. A driver of a car, which was transporting 12 migrants, lost control over the vehicle, which overturned and caught fire. Most of the injured migrants are reportedly citizens of Somalia and Pakistan. Shortly before the accident, the driver has not stopped the vehicle after the relevant demand of the migration department’s employees. The EU has been experiencing a large-scale migration crisis since 2015 due to the influx of thousands of migrants and refugees fleeing crises in their home countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

Meanwhile, one migrant was killed and 13 Moroccan soldiers were injured when some 300 illegal Subsaharan African migrants forced their way to the Spanish enclave of Melillia.

The ministry said in a statement that 141 illegal migrants were arrested when the Moroccan authorities intervened to foil their attempt to storm the border fence separating Spanish enclave Melilla from Morocco on Sunday.

Thirteen soldiers were wounded during this operation and were rushed into a hospital in the northern city of Nador to receive medical treatment, the statement pointed out.

While climbing the fence of the occupied city of Melillia, one person died after falling from the top of the fence and 22 assailants were injured by barbed wire before they were transferred to the hospital, it added.
