Stop brutalities in Kashmir, Pakistan warns India

| PM urges New Delhi to resolve lingering dispute | FM asks world to take notice of HR violations in occupied valley

ISLAMABAD  -   Prime Minister Imran Khan Monday strongly condemned the "new cycle of killings" of innocent Kashmiris in the Indian Occupied Kashmir and urged India to resolve the lingering dispute, according to the wishes of its people.

He was reacting to news reports that spoke of a new spate of violence in Kulgam area that led to the killing of around nine civilians and injures to over 50 civilians in a clash with the Indian forces.

"It is time India realised it must move to resolve the Kashmir dispute through dialogue in accordance with the UN SC resolutions & the wishes of the Kashmiri people," the prime minister said in a tweet.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi also Monday strongly condemned the horrific killing of innocent Kashmiris.

In a statement, he said that the people of Kashmir were being victimised to quell their struggle for realisation of their legitimate right to self-determination.

“Pakistan mourns, with its brothers and sisters in Kashmir, on this unabated killing spree and salutes to the courage and commitment of the people of Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

Qureshi said that the international community needed to take swift action against human rights violations in Kashmir by the Indian occupation forces.

Pakistan calls upon the international community to take cognisance of human rights violations in held Kashmir as well as the UN Report on Jammu and Kashmir, he maintained.

Pakistan urges India to stop the bloodshed in Kashmir and allow the UN observers to visit the held valley, he added.

The OIC's Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) in a recent statement also expressed strong concern over the ongoing reign of terror unleashed by the Indian Security Forces against innocent Kashmiri Muslims in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK).

"Indian occupation machinery has shamelessly used all kinds of oppressive policies to silence the voice and destroy the will of Kashmiri people through use of torture, arbitrary arrests and unlawful killing of thousands of innocent civilians including women and children," the statement said.

Reports from Srinagar say a complete shutdown was being observed in the Kashmir valley following the shutdown call by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) against the civilian killings in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
