The political and economic condition of the country has worsened considerably in the last few months. People sickened by the high rate of inflation, atrocious law order situation and daily incidents of suicide bombings had heaved a sigh of relief when the elected prime minister had announced in his first speech that his 100 days program will solve all major problems. Five months later, everything has worsened while our elected government continues to be mired in non-issues. People are right in asking why are our real issues not being discussed in parliament? Why is the elected parliament not removing the danger of 58 2B and 17 amendments from its head? People had given mandate to the PPP government to provide them with food shelter and clothing and to resolve the major constitutional issues facing the country. But the present government failed to fulfill its promises. The people of Pakistan see no difference between the present government and the previous one. -MUHAMMAD IBTESAM MAZAHIR, Karachi, via e-mail, September 7.
