KPT down PIA in PPL

KARACHI KPT maintained their winning streak in the National Premier Football League as they defeated star-studded PIA 2-1 at their own ground here on Wednesday afternoon. After playing a goalless first half, KPT swung into action in the 51st minute when Shahid Saleem drew the first blood surprising the airlines deep defenders with a superb try that bulged the net. The lead, however, was short lived when airlines retaliated. Seven minutes after conceding the lead, Abdul Ghafoor converted a penalty kick awarded to the team after Akhtar Mehmood committed a foul inside the box. Akhtar was immediately shown the red card this keeping him out him of the next match. The contest turned tense as the match progressed towards the final hooter. However, a super-fit KPT put the opponents under severe pressure and succeeded in clinching the match winner in 63rd minute. Zahid Ahmed made it 2-1 for the host. In another match of the championship played at Peoples Football Stadium, KESC forced NBP to play a one-all draw. KESC scored in the 68th minute when Abdul Rehman nodded a cross from Essa Khan from the right into the goal. The Bankers fought back bravely and succeeded in levelling the score one-all in the 76th minute. Muhammad Asif dodged past a host of defenders before placing the ball into the net to salvage one point for his team from the contest.
