KARACHI The Karachi Table Tennis Association (KTTA) will organise Karachi Open Championships in memory of Majeed Khan, the founder of Islamia Club, at the club premises from September 30, it was announced here Wednesday. Islamia Club, located in the Soldier Bazar neighborhood just close to main MA Jinnah road, was the hub of all local and national table tennis activities for over three decades. The club hosted the national championships for a number of times. At the time of independence, the YMCA had the honour of holding table tennis tournaments but after the Islamia Club came into existence in early 60s, the table tennis activities were shifted to that club. Majeed Khan, whose son Arif Khan became double gold medal winner at the SAF Games championship, established a number of offices both at Karachi and in the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation. The competition will be held in men singles, women singles and boys and girls under-18. Last date for submission of entry forms is Monday (September 27). The draws will be taken out at Islamia Club Soldier Bazaar Karachi on Tuesday (September 28) at 7 pm.
