OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE-Punjab Governor, Sardar Latif Ahmad Khan Khosa on Thursday told the new US Consul General in Lahore, Nina Maria Fite that Pakistan was proud of being a front-line ally of the US in the war against terror. MS Nina called on the governor at Governors House after assuming new responsibilities at the US Consulate General Lahore. Khosa further told the US diplomat that Pak-US relations were based on mutual respect and sincerity and getting stronger with the passage of time. He said Pakistan was proud of being a front-line ally of the US in the war against terror and its role for establishing peace in the world had been acclaimed at all international forums. He was of the view that poverty, unemployment and social inequality gave rise to extremism, and Pakistan government was trying its best to address these issues. He said that prospects for vast opportunities of cooperation between the two countries in different fields existed were there which could be further explored. Khosa identified three sectors-human resource development, energy and education as the main fields where America could assist Pakistan. He said that two-third of Pakistans population comprised the youth and the US could play major role by equipping them with technical skills. While congratulating Ms Nina on her appointment in the US Consulate, the governor expressed the hope that relations between the two countries would further improve during her stay in Pakistan. Ms Nina said that her country attached great value to its relations with Pakistan and was desirous of enhancing cooperation in various fields. She said America was paying special attention to promote technical education in Pakistan with special emphasis on textile sector and medium size entrepreneurs.
