Lahore NAB recovers Rs1 billion in Eden Housing Society fraud

LAHORE - On the orders of Lahore High Court, the Lahore National Accountability Bureau (NAB) recovered Rs1 billion initially from Eden Housing Society management.

The NAB Lahore had initiated an inquiry against Eden Housing Society management in 2019 on hundreds of complaints by the people about fraud, after which investigation pertaining to such complaints was started, NAB sources said here on Wednesday.

During the investigation, 11,888 affectees of Eden Society submitted the claims of Rs 13 billion, upon which, the NAB Lahore made the claims as part of the reference, and filed a reference of Rs 25 billion as per the market value of properties, in the accountability court.

Late Dr Amjad, his wife Anjum Amjad and others Murtaza Amjad and Mustafa Amjad were nominated as accused in the reference. Later, an accountability court issued orders in March 2021 to sale the properties

owned by the accused, however, the Lahore High Court, on bail application of Dr Amjad, had ordered him and his wife Anjum Amjad to submit Rs 1 billion as surety bonds into the official account of NAB Chairman Javed Iqbal. Lahore NAB has so far seized the properties owned by Eden Housing Ltd and its owners so that such properties could not be sold or transferred to others name.
