Nawaz says people against Talibanisation

LAHORE - PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the arrest of Pakistani students by the British govt under false terrorism charges and registered his protest to UK HC Robert Nichole and UK Foreign Secretarys Special Representative Sherard Cowper-Coles who called on him at his residence here on Thursday. Nawaz hosted a luncheon reception in the honor of both the dignitaries. Nawaz told the British delegation that UK govt had picked them up without any solid evidence. This incident damaged the image of Pakistan around the world, he added. He called for Pak-UK relations on the basis of equality. Nawaz, who is likely to visit London soon called upon British authorities to play their active role in halting Drone attacks which had led to civilian casualties and inflamed anti-US sentiments. The wide-ranging talks covered the issues about war on terror, Swat peace accord, Drone attacks and current political situation in Pakistan. Nawaz further said that people did not want Talibanisation in the country as the country had already faced irreparable losses due to it. He asserted that Swat peace accord only meant to restore peace in the Valley, and it should be not taken as weakness of Pakistan govt. Nawaz also rejected charges against ISI, saying there was no room for any suspicion. He also urged US govt to evolve an 'effective strategy, and suggested talks and development projects to facilitate the return of peace to the Tribal Areas. UK dignitaries assured Nawaz of their cooperation and work for improving relations.
