LAHORE - Punjab govt has decided to establish a new police force naming itQuick Response Force Unit (QRFU) to counter the deadly terrorist attacks in the province. A source privy to the development said that recruitment for the said special force would be made in phases. About the strength of the said force, the source said that matter of strength of new force was under consideration. However, he claimed that new force might comprise around 4000 to 5000 personnel who would be deployed at divisional level. CCPO Lahore confirmed the proposal of new force saying that the decision to establish new police force was under consideration. He said that QRFU would help in minimizing terrorism incidents. The source said that the new force would be given extensive training on the pattern of army commandos enabling them to effectively face the challenges of terrorism. The said new force would be the first to react in case of any terrorist attack at any place in the province. Some other important decisions were also taken regarding the compensation of the police personnel if they sacrificed their lives while countering terrorism which is estimated Rs 3 million for each martyred personnel. This decision will be applied especially for the new force. These decisions have been taken in a high-level meeting of the Punjab Chief Minister convened to thwart terrorist attack in the big cities including provincial capital Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi etc. All the Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and other top police officers were also present in the meeting besides Inspector General Police Punjab. The meeting discussed in detail the causes of security lapse in recent deadly attacks at Liberty Chowk and Police Training Center Manawan.
