KARACHI - The Chairperson KPT Mrs Nasreen Haque performed the keel laying of two pusher tugs and one dredge tender during a ceremony held at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KS&EW) on Friday. The top officials of KPT and KS&EW attended the ceremony, while Karachi Shipyard is at present constructing two pusher tugs for KPT; each having a length 16.89 meters, breadth 5.59 meters, depth 2.51 meters, displacement 55 tonnes and draught aft 2 meters. The Shipyard is also constructing a dredge tender for KPT; having length 19.11 meters, breadth 8.46 meters, depth 2.75 meters, displacement 125 tonnes and draught aft 1.70 meters. While speaking on the occasion, the Chairperson appreciated the efforts of Karachi Shipyard for showing timely performance. The ceremony was actually due on 28th April but it is their hard efforts which resulted in hosting the auspicious ceremony today. Mrs Nasreen Haque said that we would like to see this continuity of hard work in future as well which could lead to early harbour trials and deliveries of these marine crafts to KPT in the coming year. The Karachi Shipyard is scheduled to do the harbour acceptance trial of one pusher tugs on 27th April 2011 and the other on 25th May 2011. The harbour acceptance trial of dredge tender is scheduled to take place on 23rd June 2011.
