AHMEDPUR EAST - Chairman Senate Farooq H Naek has said Bahawalpur province could not be restored by executive order, as there was no such provision in Pakistan Constitution. He stated this while talking to a delegation of Bahawalpur in a launching ceremony of a book here on Friday. He said that new provinces could be created in India under its constitution but here in Pakistan an Amendment should be passed by the parliament with two-thirds majority for the formation of a new province. Chairman Senate opined that PML-Q Senator Muham-mad Ali Durrani has missed an opportunity for the restoration of Bahawalpur province, as he did not submit a Constitutional Amendment to Constitutional Reforms Committee on the behalf of his party for its approval in National Assembly. Naek maintained that PPP government led by President Asif Ali Zardari had chann-elised billions of rupees for the uplift of South Punjab and making its all-out efforts for the betterment of the downtrodden. Chairman Senate termed the 18th Amendment as a milestone in the history of the country and said that it would strengthen the democratic system in the nation.
