LAHORE – Punjab Police Inspector General Haji Habib-ur-Rehman on Monday lauded the role of DPO Muzaffargarh Munir Ahmed Zia Rao, who successfully foiled a bank dacoity attempt and arrested  six armed bandits red-handed. The Punjab police spokeswoman Nabeela Ghazanfar said that six armed men later identified as Imam Bakhash, Zahid Arain, Muhammad Waris, Mumtaz, Muhammad Junaid and Liaquat appeared at a Habib Bank Branch, Jatoi, and snatched the gun from the security guard. She said that after snatching the gun they forced their entry into the bank and held hostage the employees at gun-point. ‘Eventually, someone from the bank had already rung the alarm on which nearby police cordoned of the bank’, she said, adding, DPO Muzaffargarh Rao Munir rushed towards the crime scene.According to the spokeswoman, Rao Munir flanked by a good number of police contingent chased the dacoits, who opened indiscriminate firing on police force.The firing, however, was retaliated in the same manner, resultantly one dacoit namely Zahid Arain sustained multiple injuries while the others dacoits were also arrested. Sources said the IG Punjab phoned Rao Munir and congratulated him over the successful encounter. The IG Punjab said such police officers would be encouraged at all fronts. According to a handout, IG Punjab said two DPOs including DPO Muzaffargarh and DPO Sargodha were performing upto the mark whereas others should follow their footprints.
