MULTAN - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Vice Chairman Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi claimed on Monday that the government was using delaying tactics to postpone general elections as the rulers feared that they would lose polls because of their poor performance during the their entire term.Talking to the journalists here at Multan Airport, he warned that the PTI would strongly resist any bid to delay elections. Answering a question, he said that there was no logic for delaying the general elections. He pointed out that the Supreme Court had snubbed election commission for delay in preparation of voter lists while the Nadra had also given assurance regarding timely completion of the rolls. “But now the rulers themselves are looking for pretexts to flee from the election,” he added. To a query on Pak-India relations, he said that all the issues should be settled through talks as war was no more solution to any problem.Referring to Quetta public meeting, he said that the successful event broke the atmosphere of silence and fear in Balochistan. He added that the public meeting not only discouraged such elements who spread anarchy but also silenced the factories spreading rumours that the tsunami had died down. “Our Quetta meeting was historic. We’ve got a massive push as a large number of Balochs especially women participated in it, “he added. He said that the slogans of Pakistan Zindabad defeated such forces that suspected loyalty of Balochs. He said that the rulers tried to befool the residents of this region in the name of Seraiki province. “If the rulers are really sincere to make this province, why didn’t they include a clause in 18th amendment for Seraiki province?” he posed a question. He maintained that the residents of South Punjab were fully aware of the fact that the PPP released this filler to defeat PML-N and distribute votes. “In retaliation, the Nawaz League has released the filler of Bahawalpur province. Both the parties are doing political jugglery to win public support by raising the slogan of new provinces,” he added.Presenting PTI’s stance on new provinces, he said that the units should be formed on the basis of masses’ needs and not for any one’s personal gains. To a query on restoration NATO supply, if the supply could be suspended through an executive order why it could not be restored through the same. He claimed that the rulers wanted to conceal their corruption they committed under the guise of NATO supply. “That’s why they are dragging parliament in this issue. The government should take nation into confidence and tell it that why the supply was suspended and on what terms it is being restored,” he demanded. He said that the rulers completely failed on all fronts. “Economy is sinking while tax collection has stopped. I had predicted few months back that the government will fail to achieve tax targets. Today the time has proved it.” Former federal minister Jahangir Tareen and Jamal Leghari were also with him.
