ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Punjab police to investigate Sonia Naz case in light of DIG Zafar Qureshi’s report.The court also directed the police to register an FIR in murder of Malik Muhammad Yousaf, father-in-law of Sonia Naz, while dismissed the report submitted by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab in the suo moto case of abduction and rape of Sonia Naz.According to the report, letter has been written to Secretary (Services), Punjab to initiate action against Ch Sajjad Ahmed, ex-DIG Faisalabad Range, Abdullah Khan, ex-SP investigation, Mushtaq Ahmed DSP, Mansoor Ahmad, DSP, Rasheed Ahmad Malik and Naeem Ahmed Sheikh, ASP. It was informed that Abdullah Khalid, ex-SP investigation, has been retired on May 1, 2006. At that time he was under suspension and inquiry was being conducted against him. But the proceedings were held in abeyance in pursuance of the direction of the government. The IGP Punjab report says that the DPO Toba Tek Singh has issued show cause notice to Inspector Jamshed Iqbal Chishti, SHO, and awarded him a major punishment of forfeiture of two years approved service.The report further stated that a case has been registered against eight persons regarding the killing of Malik Yousaf. A request has been made to District and Sessions Judge Lahore for disinterment of the grave of deceased Malik Yousaf. The case was adjourned till May 10.
