LAHORE - Sargodha University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Akram Chaudhry has said that the poetry and thoughts of Allama Iqbal are derived from the Holy Quran and the reference of various Quran’s verses and Hadiths are found in his poetry.
He was addressing a special lecture organised by PU Department of Philosophy at auditorium of Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology here on Tuesday.
PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran presided over the lecture while Chairperson Department of Philosophy Dr Shagufta Bukhari, Director Students Affairs Shahid Mahmood Gul, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
Reading his research paper on the subject, Dr Akram said that Allama Iqbal had directly used verses from Quran in his various poems and had narrated meanings of Quran in their true manner, which showed his in-depth understanding of the Holy book.
Allama Iqbal understood that the wisdom lacking understanding of Quran was impure and poor, he added. He said Iqbal was a lover of Quran and in the last period of his life, he used to blubber while reciting the Holy book.
He said that Iqbal had a strong grip over Arabic language and used difficult Arabic terms in an efficient manner. He said the Western Press termed Iqbal a Jihadi and wanted to remove his poetry from curriculum. Nothing but confusion has been created against Iqbal in the biased press of the west, he added. Dr Akram Chaudhry cited various poems and stanzas from Iqbal’s poetry to support his arguments.
The participants applauded Dr Akram and the hall echoed with loud noise of clapping.
