LAHORE - Punjab Paramedics Alliance held a demonstration at Punjab Institute of Cardiology on Wednesday to press for the demands of service structure, regularization of ad hoc employees and payment of health professional allowance.  Carrying placards and banners inscribed with writing in favour of their demands, dozens of paramedics, led by PPA Punjab President Malik Munir Ahmed, chanted slogans against the government.

Malik Munir threatened to establish protest camps outside the venue of International Labour Conference in Lahore on April 26. He said that it was a pity that the government has not honored the commitment made by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif two years back.

Khalid laid to rest

Former Ambassador Khalid Mehmood was laid to rest after funeral prayers at Bilal Masjid, Cantt on Wednesday. He breathed his last on Tuesday after protracted illness.  Besides former Foreign Minister Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri, MNA Shafqat Mehmood, Bukhtiar Mehmood Kasuri and Ehsan Naz, a large number of people from various walks of life participated in the funeral prayers.

Nine POs caught

FIA Wednesday claimed to have arrested nine proclaimed offenders (POs) and three court absconders during crackdown on them.  Spokesman for FIA said that the agency expedited the campaign against POs on the direction of Ministry Interior and FIA Headquarters.

Those arrested included Qaiser Shehzad, Tanveer Ahmad CA, Fazal Elahi CA, M Arshad, Farukh Shehzad, M Siddique, M Iqbal, M Abbas, Zulfiqar Ali, Syed Muzafar Hussain, Ansar Iqbal, and Hina Gul.

The spokesman said that present FIA Director Dr Usman directed the staff to improve their working and finalisation of all pending inquiries and cases.
