Islamabad - Federal Minister for Planning and Development Prof Ahsan Iqbal said on Thursday that an independent website was being set up to make all the details and information on China Pakistan Economic Corridor CPEC accessible for the public.

“The visit of Chinese President to Pakistan after nine years has made Pakistan the investment destination for the investors at national and global level and 2015 is the implementation year for CPEC”, he said while chairing a meeting on implementation of projects under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) here. The minister said, “Each Ministry will come up with a comprehensive plan within five days as to how impending challenges can be overcome and implementation process of CPEC projects can be strategized to ensure effective and timely execution of multiple energy and infrastructure projects.” “A consolidated and inclusive plan on the road map for implementation of CPEC projects will be presented to Prime Minister to avoid any future discrepancy”, he said while directing the representatives of Federal Ministries and other stakeholder organizations. Highlighting the importance of project management, he said, “The pyramidal structure of monitoring and evaluation was being created envisaging Prime Minister’s own involvement at the top and project site office at the bottom”. The Joint Working Group on CPEC would be constituted soon to start the consultation process with provinces on industrial parks and economic zones”, he added. The federal minister castigated negative narratives on CPEC emanating from Indian media and some political circles and urged political parties, bureaucracy, civil society and the people of Pakistan to show national coherence on CPEC in order to defeat conspiracy on CPEC in all manifestations. “CPEC is a tree which will bear fruit for whole nation. It is the responsibility of every region and province of Pakistan to keep giving water (ownership) to this tree until it grows into shelter providing relief in the form of plethora of power and regional connectivity”, he added.

Chinese invited to invest in ports, agriculture sectors

Staff Reporter adds: Minister of State/ Chairman Board of Investment Dr Miftah Ismail, on Thursday invited the Chinese investors for making investment in Ports and Shipping, agriculture sectors and to establish a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Gwadar or anywhere in Pakistan.

Dr Miftah Ismail made these remarks during a meeting with a 9-member Chinese delegation of Qingdao Municipal Government of China headed by Liu Mingiun, Deputy Mayor. The meeting discussed the investment opportunities available in Pakistan. Chairman, BOI informed that Pakistan is committed to provide an investment friendly regime to investors especially to Chinese friends by offering lucrative fiscal incentives and conducive business environment.  Chairman said that China and Pakistan have entered into a comprehensive plan of economic corridor. Pakistan China trade and economic relations have a great scope for expansion. Pakistan and China as strategic partners have been cooperating in various fields of mutual interest. The recent visit of Chinese President will further cement the existing relations and open new avenues for cooperation. All these strengths offer Chinese investors and business community unlimited business opportunities.

Liu Mingjun, Deputy Mayor of Qingdao Municipal Government led a business delegation comprising business in ports, infrastructure, mechanical processing and environmental protection companies to Pakistan. The main purpose of the visit is to further strengthen the business ties between Qingdao and Pakistan. Deputy Mayor invited MOS / Chairman to visit Qingdao with leading business entrepreneurs of Pakistan.

The Minister of State/ Chairman, BOI assured full cooperation to the Chinese delegation and invited them to arrange an exhibition from Qingdao business companies anywhere in Pakistan. On the request of Liu the MOS / Chairman BOI has nominated Dr. Raania Ahsan, DG, BOI as focal person in BOI to cooperate with Qingdao Municipal Government of China. This will give a great opportunity to both Pakistani and Qingdao companies for the business adventure. He further said that BOI, being the official facilitating agency of the Government for investment for promotion and provide facilitation to foreign investors and welcomed to Chinese businessmen / entrepreneurs to visit Pakistan. The BOI will facilitate and assure them full support with regard to arranging their meetings with relevant Ministries/ Divisions/ Departments as and when needed.

At the end MOS/Chairman, BOI thanked Liu Mingjun, Deputy Mayor of Qingdao Municipal Government China and appreciated his efforts and intention with regard to boost investment and economic relations between the two countries.
