Supremacy of Constitution vital to strengthen democracy: PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said that democratic institutions in Pakistan could be strengthened through the supremacy of the Constitution. The Prime Minister expressed these views during a meeting with Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha, MNA, who called on him, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.

During the meeting, matters related to the strengthening of democracy and economic progress were discussed. The Prime Minister observed that they would have to work together for the strengthening of democratic institutions and public welfare. Mohsin Ranjha expressed the optimism that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the federal government would match the rapid pace of development as witnessed during his tenures as Chief Minister of Punjab.

‘Deeply concerned’ PM summons meeting on polio eradication

Meanwhile, the meeting of the National Task Force on Polio has been convened to meet tomorrow (Monday) at the PM office to discuss the latest reporting of the fresh polio case in Pakistan. Official sources told The Nation that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would chair the meeting, which would discuss data and reports of   latest polio case in North Waziristan district. Official sources said the meeting is expected to evolve strategy to cope with the spread of fresh polio cases in Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed concern over the reporting of these fresh cases and directed the concerned officials to investigate the reasons for the fresh case. By January this year, Pakistan was declared polio-free as over the past one year, there was no detection of any polio case in Pakistan.  However, the reporting of fresh case sent alarm waves among concerned quarters as well as in WHO.
