SINGAPORE (AFP) World swimmings governing body FINA said Monday it will consider staging diving competitions in the evening and outdoors after positive feedback at the inaugural Youth Olympics. The womens 10m platform final on Sunday in Singapore was the first time a FINA-sanctioned diving competition had been held in the open air at night. It was amazing, FINA diving technical committee chairman Jesus Mena told reporters. This is something that we now have had a great experience with. When we finish at the Youth Olympic Games, night diving is something that we will be keeping in mind for future events. Divers and coaches had concerns about the concept leading up to these Games but have generally embraced the idea. Before, it was a myth that you couldnt dive at night time in an outdoor pool, said Mena, the 1988 Seoul Olympic 10m platform bronze medallist. Now from (the Youth Olympics), we know its possible. The divers and coaches say its been a good experience. This could change the sport for television and for the diving family.
