LAHORE - The Lahore High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Monday appointed Bahawalpur district & sessions judge to hold judicial inquiry into police torture on female students of Quaid-e-Azam Medical College. The CJ ordered judicial inquiry on the request of Punjab government and directed the inquiry judge to conclude the same within two weeks and filed his report in the court on September 7. Earlier, Bahawalpur district police officer Babar Bakht Qureshi appeared in the court to attend suo moto proceedings and filed a written report about the incident. He rejected the allegations that any female student was tortured by the police claiming that the videos and still photographs showed by the media were bogus and fabricated. He said no female student was reported to medico legal report in Bahawalpur Victoria Hospital, attached with the medical college. The DPO further claimed that the students of the medical college were playing in the hands of anti-lobby of the principal and protesting against his appointment on baseless allegations. Chief Justice, however, did not comment on the report and decided to wait for the final report of the judicial inquiry. He directed all the parties involved to appear before the inquiry judge.
