LAHORE Following failure of the plan to lift garbage from the City during night-time, the City District Governments Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) has reverted to its normal routine of carrying out the task during the daytime, officials told TheNation on Monday. The SWMD introduced night-time lifting a couple of weeks back, but the complaints of negligence on the part of sanitation staff and lack of monitoring on the part of officers increased manifold, thus forcing the high-ups to revert to the normal routine. Besides re-introduction of daytime lifting of garbage from across the City, the SWMD high-ups removed monitoring officers and replaced them with new faces. The SWMD introduced night-time lifting about a couple of weeks back. The purpose was to ensure lifting of maximum garbage from across the City. Instead of improving, the sanitation conditions worsened due to lack of proper lifting of garbage. Lack of proper monitoring on the part of officers allowed the staff to work on will. The complaints increased manifold that forced the high-ups to revert to daytime lifting and replace the negligent monitoring officers with new ones, said a CDG official.
