LAHORE - Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf on Thursday said that bowling coach would be selected purely on merit and announced shortly to boost the bowling strength of the national team.

Talking on the unveiling of event logo of Pakistan-Australia series here at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Zaka Ashraf said: “We will select the best suitable bowling coach in a transparent way and merit will be our top priority.”

Zaka said that the bowling coach was being selected through a laid down procedure and a committee was thoroughly monitoring the entire process to ensure the selection of most suitable professional person to lift the pace bowling department.

To a query regarding Shoaib Akhtar’s willingness to serve Pakistan cricket as a bowling coach, he replied: “We just cannot select a coach on the announcement of his willingness or availability but if any one want to become a coach, he has to go through a procedure in order to meet all the requirements.”

The PCB chief said that the performance of Pakistan U-19 team in the World Junior Cricket Cup will be ascertained after receiving reports from the team management. “Our team’s performance was up to the mark as they played well in the initial part of the tournament but then they failed to show consistency and could not achieve desired results in the event,” he said.

He hoped that Pakistan team will deliver against Australia and try their best to win the series. “The PCB is striving hard to lift the overall performance of the national team and hiring a best suitable bowling coach on merit is also the part of a such efforts,” he added.

The unveiling event logo ceremony was also attended by Owais Ashraf, Cool & Cool, Adnan Anwar Khan, Group Head Retail and Middle Markets Central - Bank Alfalah, Usman Ishaq, Executive Director Zong, Naureed Awan, Chairman MMA Group, and Rao Umer Hashim of Transmedia and Subhan Ahmed, PCB Chief Operating Officer.

The title sponsor of the series is Cool & Cool and the presenting sponsor of the series is Bank Alfalah while Zong and MMA Group are the co-sponsors.

The series would be called Bank Alfalah presents Cool & Cool ODI Cup and Bank Alfalah Presents Cool & Cool T20 Cup Pakistan vs Australia Series 2012.  The matches will be held in the UAE from 28 August till 10 September. The Bank Alfalah Presents Cool & Cool Cup 2012 will comprise three One-day internationals and three T20 internationals.

To a query regarding Zulqarnain Haider’s statements, PCB COO Subhan Ahmed said: “Wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider has been served a notice and asked to appear before PCB’s committee for his recent outburst on the selection committee and recall of wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal and his selection in the national team.” “Zulqarnain comes under PCB code of conduct and necessary proceedings are being initiated and he has been asked to strengthen his claims with the provision of evidences what so ever he has. The committee will probe the matter before finalizing its recommendations,” he concluded.
