Full agreement eludes PPP, MQM on new municipal system

KARACHI- The core-committee of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have agreed on new municipal system, however, deadlock persists between both the parties on the transfer of provincial departments on lower level.
It was decided that Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad and Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah would resolve the issue. The meeting of the core-committee of Pakistan Peoples Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement was held at the CM House on Thursday.
Sindh ministers, including Agha Siraj Durrani, Pir Mazharul Haq, Rafiq Engineer, and Murad Ali Shah represents the PPP, however, Federal Minister Dr Farooq Sattar, Wasay Jaleel, Kanwar Naveed and Syed Sardar Ahmed attended the meeting from MQM side.
Provincial Minister Agha Siraj Durrani while talking to media, after the meeting, said that there was a conflict over transfer of provincial powers, but the issue would resolve by Governor Sindh and CM Sindh on the direction of President Asif Ali Zardari. He said that new municipal system had been finalised.
He said that police, revenue, health, education, agriculture and other departments could not be given to municipal institutions, which was cause of basic conflict between both the two coalition parties.
He hoped that the issue would also be resolved with consensus. He said that both Pakistan Peoples Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement were busy for the development of the province, saying that both parties have reached on the consensus on 107 points of the draft out of 130 points. The provincial minister further said that they want to apply the new local bodies system according to the wishes of the people.
He said, “I want to hold the elections in my tenure.” Muttahida Qaumi Movement parliamentary leader in Sindh Assembly Sardar Ahmed said, “We are trying to present the bill of new municipal system in the coming session of Sindh Assembly,” adding that the meeting was held in the good atmosphere and we have reached consensus on major issues on new municipal system.
MEETING HELD: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah on Thursday held a meeting with officer-bearers and workers of Pakistan Peoples Party Karachi Division at the Chief Minister House.
The meeting was attended among others by Pakistan Peoples Party Sindh Secretary General Taj Haider, Sindh Local Government Minister Agha Siraj Durrani, Senator Saeed Ghani, Amin Lakho, Sindh Minister Rafique Engineer, Najmi Alam, Masroor Ashan, Senator Dr Karim Khawaja, Political Coordinator to CM Siddique Abu Bhai, Senior Special Assistant Rashid Rabbani, Special Assistant Waqar Mehdi and others.
The workers of Pakistan Peoples Party Karachi Division expressed their full confidence in the leadership of Sindh Pakistan Peoples Party particularly Qaim Ali Shah and lauded his struggle and services for strengthen the programme of the party.
The members presented problems pertaining to minority workers, issues of Lyari, law and order, injustice with workers in Orangi, delimitation of constituencies for election and other issues.
The workers of Lyari also proposed to establish Football Academy. The workers expressed their full confidence in Qaim Ali Shah. He stressed upon workers to remain united and extend their services for the poor and needy people.
Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said, “We have to remain ready for next elections and should complete the requirements and need timely.” The meeting also discussed other matters.
