SIALKOT - The weather turned pleasant as city received heavy rain with thunderstorm here the other day. The monsoon spell hit Sialkot, giving a respite to loadshedding-hit masses. People came out to the streets and enjoyed the weather.Citizens faced hardships as heavy rain also inundated main city roads including Kutchery Road, Paris Road, Abbot Road, Jail Road, Railway Road, Mujahid Road, Shahabpura Road, Rangpura, Hajipura, Prem Nagar, Pooran Nagar, Commissioner Road, congested Allama Iqbal Chowk, Khadim Ali Road, Airport Road and Hajipura Road and all the surrounding residential, industrial and commercial areas including Sialkot railway station, district jail and all main and link roads leading towards Sialkot International Airport. The decades-old sewerage and drainage lines over flowed due to heavy rain. When contacted, the TMA officials concerned said that electricity and telecommunication systems were badly damaged in the city due to which electricity remained suspended for several hours, due to which electrical motors meant darning out rainwater could not function, leaving the city inundated and paralysing the activities of routine life. The Met office forecaste more wide-spread rains in Sialkot region during the next 24 hours.
