MANDI BAHAUDDIN - The Mustaqbil Pakistan Party (MPP) vehemently condemned the arrest of a mentally-retarded Christian child near Islamabad on the charge of blasphemy. In a press release issued here on Thursday, the party's district office-bearers said that Islam recognised mental disability and did not hold accountable such people responsible for their actions, adding that this case was even more sensitive since the disabled was a child. They urged the government to order immediate release of the child and tender apology to the Christian community for violation of their rights guaranteed by Islam. They also demanded protection and security to the Christian families who had been threatened in the wake of the incident. Moreover, they stressed that the government should refer the Blasphemy Law to the Council of Islamic Ideology for necessary amendments to stop victimization of minors, mentally retarded and innocent people from all minorities.
