GILGIT  - A high-level meeting has taken several important decisions to ensure security of passengers on Karakoram Highway.

The meeting chaired by Chief Secretary and attended by Home Secretary and Inspector General Police reviewed the prevailing overall law and order situation and discussed different steps to ensure safety of passengers traveling on the KKH.

It was decided that the transport department Rawalpindi/Islamabad would ensure to reach Bisham by 4 PM. Similarly busses and coaches traveling from Gilgit would ensure to reach Basri check post by 4 PM. From Basri checkpost all the vehicles would travel in the form a convoy and provided full security upto Bisham. Same procedure would be adopted for convoy from Bisham to Basri checkpost which would be secured by Karakoram Task Force vehicles.  The Karakoram Task Force consists of 422 personnel and they have been provided 31 vehicles. It decided that from Basri check post on the KKH, security would be responsibility of the Karakoram Task Force while from Bisham to Basri check post and back, the KPK government would be responsible to ensure safe journey.

All the major transport companies would be obligated to provide security guards in the passenger buses and coaches.
