LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed that elected representatives and heads of concerned institutions should fully discharge their responsibilities in the anti-dengue campaign. He directed the concerned departments to remain fully alert and finalise their arrangements to tackle with the dengue spread.

The chief minister said this while presiding over a meeting to review anti-dengue arrangements, on Thursday.

The assembly members and secretaries should spend two hours daily in the field and monitor anti-dengue arrangements, the chief minister said adding, sensitising the people about the importance of cleanliness was of vital importance and an effective awareness campaign for preventive measures be launched from Sunday.

The chief minister said that every human life was dear to him and protection of the people was his top priority therefore, no negligence would be tolerated in the arrangements against dengue. He directed the additional chief secretary to contact railway authorities for improving the arrangements against dengue. He said concerned departments should completely eliminate nurseries of dengue mosquito.

Shahbaz Sharif said immediate measures should be taken for the eradication of dengue larva as it was of vital importance for exterminating dengue mosquito. He directed that special arrangements should be made for the eradication of dengue on the entire route of metro bus and it should also be ensured that there was no stagnant water or construction material lying on the road.

He said special attention should be paid to the cleanliness of streets and muhallas and people should be apprised of preventive measures against dengue through electronic and print media. He said that the model evolved for prevention against dengue should be replicated in other districts.

Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Members National and Provincial Assembly, Secretaries Health, Local Government, Housing, heads of development authorities, commissioner and DCO Lahore and experts were present.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the people of all provinces are united at any time of trial on the country.

On the occasion of sending 25 truckloads of relief goods to the flood-hit people of Nowshera, the chief minister said Punjab government shared sentiments of love and brotherhood with the people of all provinces and also shared their sorrow. These relief items would be handed over to the government of Khyber PK for distribution among the affected people.

MNA Hanif Abbasi and the PML-N leader Marvi Memon who were tasked to transport the goods to the calamity-stricken people of Nowshera, said the PML-N workers of Khyber PK would also help distribute the relief items so that good wishes of Punjab chief minister to the affected brethren could also be conveyed. Abbasi said if required, more relief items would be sent by the Punjab government.

“The chief minister believes in helping the people of other provinces in the time of need so that they do not feel neglected. Party workers are also at the service of their brethren besides the chief minister is standing with them,” Marvi Memon said.

The trucks going to Nowshera carry relief items including flour, sugar, cooking oil, tea, soap, match boxes, candles, gram pulse, rice, dates, tents, blankets, mattresses, ghee and other daily use items.

Senator Najma Hameed, MNA Malik Shakeel Awan and Tahira Aurangzeb were also present at the time of departure.
