KARACHI - Eleven people, including political workers were gunned down in various incidents here on Friday.

A local president of the Pakistan Peoples Party for UC-11, Orangi Town, Naseem, 50, and a worker Arman aka Khurram, 30, were gunned down near Essa Hotel in Orangi Town.

SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi said the victims were standing on the street when two armed men riding a motorcycle came and shot them dead. Their bodies were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Following the incident, routine and commercial activities were suspended in the area while extra contingent of law enforcers were called to avoid any untoward incident. SHO Afridi said investigation was underway to ascertain the motive and group behind the incident. No case has been registered.

A school principal namely Abdul Matin, 60, was shot dead by armed men in Aligarh Colony, Orangi Town. Police said he was the resident of same area and a principal of a private school. The incident took place when he was going to school. Some unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle shot him dead. The body was transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and later handed over to family. The victim had no links with any political or religious party. Initial investigation suggests that he was killed over family dispute as his son-in-law has recently divorced the victim’s daughter.

On the other side, Ghulam Sabir aka Pappu was shot dead by armed men near his home in Liaquat Basti. Police quoted the initial investigation as saying that he was a criminal and had involved in several cases of robbery and narcotics. He was standing near his home when two armed culprits riding a motorcycle shot him dead over unexplained reasons.

The bodies of three young men were found from Hub River Road. One of the victims was later identified as Abdul Razzak, 28, however, the remaining two have yet to be identified. According to SHO Haji Liaquat, Razzak was working in Karachi Electric Supply Company as a driver.

The officer said all the bodies were packed in gunny bags and were tortured to death. The motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained.

Another young man was found dead near Kashti Chowk. Police said the body was packed in a gunny bag. Initial investigation suggests that he was tortured to death after being kidnapped and later his body was dumped. Police said he was shot once in his head. The body was later moved to morgue for identification after autopsy at Civil Hospital.

Similarly, SITE police also found the body of a youth near Dalda Morr. Police officials said he was shot thrice and was also tortured. Police have registered a case against unidentified persons and initiated further investigation.

The body was shifted to morgue for identification after autopsy.

A couple was gunned down in an incident of honor killing here on Friday.

Police said the woman identified as Naimat Bibi, 30, accompanied by her alleged paramour, Urf, 32, were gunned down inside a house located in Behns Colony area station. Their bodies were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. Police said the woman’s husband Barkat was behind the incident. The accused killed his wife and his alleged paramour for having illicit relations. Police have yet to arrest the accused who managed to escape.
