ISLAMABAD - Ahmed Chaudhry stunned second seed Yasir Khan in straight games in the Third Tajamul Abbas Memorial Ranking Tennis Championship semi-final here at the Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Complex on Friday.
Ahmed will face top seed Aqeel Khan in the final today (Saturday) as Aqeel outclassed M Abid in the other semifinal. Ahmed thrashed Yasir 6-0, 6-2 which was worst ever defeat faced by the No 2 ranked player of the country.
Ahmed displayed excellent game and won the first set without conceding a single game and kept the same pressure in the second set and won it 6-2 by breaking the fourth and sixth games of Yasir.
In the second semi-final, top seed Aqeel was in fine touch as he brushed aside third seed Abid 6-2, 6-2. Abid made number of unforced errors during the match which lasted one hour and 15 minutes. Aqeel will take on Ahmed in the final today at 3:45pm. Aqeel and Yasir annexed the men’s doubles title when they eliminated Abid and Usman Rafiq 6-4, 3-6 (10-8) in an entertaining there-set match.
In the boy’s U-18 event, top seed M Mudassar will face his younger brother M Muzammil in the final. Mudassar registered straight-set victory against Hamza Bin Asif 6-2, 6-1 while in the 2nd semi-final, Muzammil won his encounter against Zaid Mujahid in a three-set thriller 0-6, 7-6(6), 6-4.
Top seed Sara Mansoor will face second seed Alina Aftab in the ladies singles final. In the first semifinal, Sara crushed Mahin Aftab 6-0, 6-0 while Alina Aftab beat Amina Khan 6-2, 6-3 in the second semi-final. In the consolation senior 55+ doubles match, Brig Siddiqui pairing with Senator Syed Dilawar Abbas beat Justice Ejaz Yousaf and Mumtaz Yousaf in a thrilling three-set match 6-4, 4-6, 11-9.
IPC Minister Riaz Hussain Pirzada will grace the men’s singles final as chief guest and distribute prizes among the players.
