LAHORE - The first 9HA gas turbine weighing 372-ton, manufactured by the General Electric (GE), to be installed at 1180MW Bhikki Power Plant, has been transported to the site.

The same turbine was being used in Beauchene Power Plant in France which had been rated as the best power generation plant because of its 62.22 per cent efficiency.

One of the three gas turbine generators, also manufactured by General Electric, has already reached the site last week.

The generator has been imported from New York. The remaining two gas turbines and many generators are being manufactured by General Electric and will reach Pakistan in due course of time.

Chief Resident Engineer NESPAK, Mansoor Ali Khan said that the civil work of the Bhikki Plant in district Sheikupura is also in full swing and so far more than 70 per cent of the construction work has been completed. He said the plant will start production by March 2017 and will be contributing 750MW of power in the national grid while it will produce power to its full capacity by the end of next year 2017.

He said that Bhikki Power plant will prove to be a milestone for the power sector of Pakistan and its better efficiency will result in reduction in the cost of production which will ultimately benefit the consumers. Mansoor Khan said that this combined cycle plant may be run both on diesel and gas. He said that work is in progress on the transmission line of the plant and after completion, it would be sufficient for electricity supply to more than six million houses.

Site manager of Chinese company Harbon Electric International said that the project would add to the long-lasting friendship of Pakistan and China. He said that it would be completed within the stipulated time period.
