ISLAMABAD - The federal government yesterday appointed Lt Gen (Retd) Muzammil as the new chairman of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif accepted the resignation of outgoing Chairman Zafar Mehmood on Monday evening. Mehmood mentioned in his resignation that he was stepping down from the position due to personal commitments. He also thanked Nawaz Sharif for giving him the opportunity of serving in WAPDA as chairman.

Zafar Mehmood was known as well-reputed bureaucrat and had served as Secretary of several key Ministries including establishment, water and power, commerce, petroleum and natural resources.

Lt Gen (Retd) Muzammil Hussain has also served as Inspector-General Training and Evaluation (IGT&E) and Corps Commander Gujranwala and several top positions previously.
