Pakistan could rise to number one in the Test rankings depending on how the Colombo Test between Sri Lanka and Australia, and the fourth Test between the West Indies and India in Port of Spain pan out in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings for the first time.

Pakistan will be getting the number-one ranking for the first time since the official rankings were introduced in 2003. The highest Pakistan has ever reached is second position following its series win over England in the United Arab Emirates last year.

PCB should encourage its players to play county cricket and league cricket to adjust in the England condition because next year ICC Champion Trophy in England from June 1 to 19, 2017. In May 2018, Pakistan’s tour to England for two test matches, in 2019, Pakistan will tour England for five ODI matches and one T20 and then from May 30 to July 15, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will be played in England. Essentially, for the next three years, Pakistan will be touring England, so it is high time PCB should take steps that its players get county cricket contracts and the players who could not get signed by any county team then get to play leagues so that they can acclimatise in England’s conditions and get used to how to play in seaming conditions.
