DERA GHAZI KHAN-A Punjab police officer alleged that the smuggling of non-customs paid vehicles from Balochistan to Punjab province was in full swing nowadays due to connivance of the Border Military Police (BMP) officials with the smugglers.

Police Station Sakhi Sarwar SHO M Ismail said that on a tip-off and after a long chase along with ASI Khalil and other personnel, the police took hold of Toyota Axio (2579, BA Sind) worth Rs2 million while five notorious smugglers travelling in three vehicles left the car in desert and fled away from the scene.

Ismail said that police have registered a case vide FIR 106/16 Under Section 420,468,471 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against Nazeer Pathan alias Commando, Yar Muhammad Pathan, Karam Hussan Pathan, Mujeebullah Pathan and Akbar Pathan, all belong to Rakni Balochistan.

Ismail shared that after verification of vehicle engine and chassis number, it has been revealed that the contents of a Suzuki Jeep model 1983 were used for the car. He added that smuggling of non-customs paid vehicles was full swing in these days.

With connivance of BMP officials, he said, the smugglers easily cross the check posts of BMP namely Bawata and Rakhi Ghaj. The police had detained five non customs paid vehicle in last five months after crossing the BMP check posts at Sakhi Sarwar area, he said.

When contacted, Circle Officer BMP Jamadar Abdullah Khan, admitted that a smuggling bid has been made. But he said that famous smuggling transit route from Balochistan to Punjab, via check posts of BMP Bawata - Rakhi Ghaj has not been used for it this time.

Abdullah claimed that smugglers have used other transit route of tribal area via Kharar Buzdar and Rohgan. SHO BMP Police Station Rakhi Ghaj Mr Daulat Khan also admitted a smuggling bid of four vehicles has been made. However, he also claimed that smugglers have used this time Kharar Buzdar and Rohgan transit route for it. He defended crossing of vehicles via his official check post Rakhi Ghaj.

SHO BMP Police Station Kharar Buzdar Mr Naseem Ahmad Khan and Incharge BMP Picket Rohgan Ahmed Ali Leghari said that claim of Circle Officer Abdullah Khan and SHO Daulat Khan was baseless. They said that all people of tribal area knew that route between Kharar Buzdar and Rohgan is jeeps and motorcycles track which has became more arduous road after flash flood of torrential rains in Sawan (rainy season) nowadays.
