LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif yesterday arranged a function in honour of students Mahzeb Nasim and Naurin Kausar for setting record by obtaining 504 marks out of 505 marks in examination of 9th class of Multan and Gujranwala boards at Model Town.

The CM greeted the girls, their parents and teachers. He also gave a cash prize of Rs 100,000, a laptop to the outshining girls and announced to deposit an amount of Rs 500,000 each in the accounts of both the students. He also gave a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each to their teachers.

Shehbaz Sharif announced that the Punjab government would bear the educational expenses of both the students throughout their academic career. He announced free treatment of the ailing father of Mahzeb Nasim who belonged to Kabirwala.

Addressing the ceremony, the Chief Minister said that equipping youth with education and promotion of quality education was essential for realizing the dream of progress and prosperity of Pakistan as well as ensuring its due status in the comity of nations.

He said that the Punjab government had started revolutionary programmes for the promotion of quality education and imparting education to talented children of  poor families.

He said that Punjab Educational Endowment Fund had also been set up by the government which was unique in the country’s history. He said that from the income of historic fund of Rs 20 billion, more than one lakh talented boy and girl students of extremely low-income families were getting education and their number would increase beyond two lakh by the end of this year.

He said that it was a big challenge as women after becoming doctors, engineers, professors or getting higher education remained confined to their homes and did not work side by side men in the practical field.

Principal Federal Science School Gujranwala Mehmood Ahmed, Principal Khalid Bin Waleed High School Kabirwala Qaiser Nadeem, teachers and parents of the girl students while expressing their views said that Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif had taken revolutionary measures for the uplift of education sector due to which students were showing their talent.
