KARACHI An interpreter who led a team of local English speaking girls to help Pakistan hockey team during the Champions Challenge hockey at Salta (Argentina) has sent a letter to the Pakistan Hockey Federation to nail the scandalous lie that a section of local media spread about Pakistani hockey players during its stay there. In a long letter sent to the PHF, Neol Catalano, who led a team local English girls hired to help Pakistani team and many other non Latin speaking teams visiting Salta has severely criticised a section of the media of Pakistan which had tried to scandalise some of the pictures of interpreter team with the Pakistani players during a dinner at Salta. In Argentina, it is very common to take pictures with any sports players, she wrote and in this dinner almost everyone was a local hockey player and admires them. Uploading pictures to Facebook with your friends is also the most common thing in the whole world. If you check well, there are pictures of every hockey player of all teams at the official dinner with their translating assistants and fans of some of the best players in the world. I never ever thought it would have become such a big deal. I was not aware of your mentality and culture rules, but I dont think there is anything wrong or unethical in these pictures. They were like real brothers to me. I feel like half Pakistani after this wonderful experience, and I could not be happier. Anyway, I had to remove everything because I would never want any of them to have trouble. The full text of her letter sent to the PHF is: My name is Noel Catalano. This last November I was hired by Salta Association of Hockey with thirteen other girls, to help China, India, Canada, South Africa, New Zeeland, Belgium and Pakistan Hockey teams as long as they stood in Salta, translating from English to Spanish for them... We were all working as volunteers, and committed to this job. I felt very lucky to getting to work with Pakistan. So, yes, I have spent a lot of time with the team while they trained, and in the games. I tried to help the team managers and coaches with anything I could. The players did not spoke much to me during the tournament. However, I was treated very well and they all made me feel like part of the team. I want to make clear that after the championship ended all the teams members were invited to an official good bye dinner by the Hockey Association, as they were going back to their countries the next day. All the teams went. So my partner and I took pictures, because that is the only memory we were going to have of them. In Argentina it is very common to take pictures with any sports players, and in this dinner almost everyone was a local hockey player and admires them. Uploading pictures to Face book with your friends is also the most common thing in the whole world. They were like real brothers to me. I feel like half Pakistani after this wonderful experience, and I could not be happier. Anyway, I had to remove everything because I would never want any of them to have trouble. I was going to stay out of this situation, but I could not just sit while the media publish our stolen pictures as the worst tragedy in the world. I must say, I cant believe some people think of this as a scandal. I feel really humiliated about these pieces of news and comments. They took pictures with us because they are real gentlemen. They did not do anything wrong but being kind and polite to their admirers... You, press people should be ashamed for trying to ruin their careers inventing some nonsense story. They are real national heroes. They deserve so much better from you. So please, with all respect, next time you should do well your homework instead of messing with honest and hard working people. This is what happened here actually, and all I can and I am going to say about it. I hope the best for Pakistan Hockey Team. They really deserve everything.
