ISLAMABAD General Jean-Louis Georgelin, Chief of the Defence Staff, French Republic, on Wednesday visited General Headquarters and called on Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. The visiting dignitary remained with him for some time and discussed matters of professional interest. Earlier, on arrival at General Headquarters, General Georgelin laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army presented the guard of honour to the visiting dignitary. According to well-informed sources, both sides discussed host of issues including enhancing cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries, regional situation, cooperation in war against terror, and new US Afghan policy in detail. Sources informed that the COAS also apprised the French Chief of Pakistans views on new US Afghan policy and the drone attacks. They revealed that the visiting dignitary while lauding the sacrifices and role of the Pakistani security forces said that France would consolidate military relations with Pakistan through capacity building initiatives. The sources further informed that visiting dignitary reiterated that NATO forces in Afghanistan would not repeat past mistakes and would respects geographical limits of Pakistan.
