Army has been called in for security duty on eve of Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) as four companies were deployed in Multan on Monday. The army personnel will move in case of any untoward situation and maintain law and order in the district. Similarly, ban on pillion riding has also been imposed in Multan under Section 144 on Chehlum day.

Meanwhile, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Zahid Saleem Gondal said that foolproof security arrangements had been made for the Chehlum. He warned that indiscriminate action would be taken if anyone tried to disrupt the peace. He asked the organizers of the processions to follow their route map and time schedule strictly.

Like other parts of the country, the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) will be marked today (Tuesday) in entire South Punjab. A number of historic Chehlum processions will take place in Multan and mourners will self-flagellate with sharp knives mounted on chains and swords. Besides police and army, as many as 1,500 civil defence personnel and volunteers will offer security duty on the day. The entry and exit points of the processions have reportedly been closed to traffic and police contingents are deployed.
