LAHORE  - The National College of Arts (NCA) on Monday celebrated the Christmas with the college’s minority community at a colourful ceremony at college auditorium.

College Principal Prof Dr Murtaza Jafri was the chief guest on the occasion while heads of various departments, faculty members, administrative and Christian staff of the college and students attended the ceremony. The principal cut the Christmas cake.

Addressing the ceremony, the principal said that we are all Pakistanis and we should share our happiness with each other. He also announced a dinner party for the Christian staff of the college after Christmas.

Meanwhile, the Government College University celebrated the Christmas with the university’s minority community at a colourful ceremony at the university’s Abdus Salam Hall which was especially decorated in a traditional style with a large Christmas tree, lights, flowers, wreaths and flags.

Government College University VC Prof Dr Khaleeq-ur-Rahman was the chief guest of the ceremony which was attended by all faculty members, students and members of Non-Gazetted Staff Association of the university. Cutting the Christmas cake, the VC announced one day additional salary for the Christian staff of the university.

He reminded the GCU staff of Quaid-e-Azam’s message that all Pakistanis were equal irrespective of religion or caste.

He lauded the minorities’ contribution in progress of the university. He called on the teachers to spread the message of love, peace and unity among their students.

Non-Gazetted Staff Association President Khaliq Hussain said, “Pakistan especially Government College University is a heaven for minority community where all our Muslim brothers love us and share our happiness and sorrows,” adding that the minority staff of the university would never forget the love extended to them by the vice chancellor. Later, Dr Peter John representing the GCU staff members thanked the Vice Chancellor and other guests.

Furthermore, Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) organised a Christmas cutting cake ceremony at Nawaz Sharif Social Security Hospital Multan Road on Monday.  Parliamentary Secretary For Minorities and Human Rights Tariq Gill along with PESSI Commissioner Farhan Aziz Khawaja cut the cake.

Tariq Gill said that Christmas promotes the spirit of peace, harmony and interfaith unity. All religion promotes the spirit of love and peace. Moreover, he prayed for the prosperity of Pakistan and said that we should come out of all sorts of disputes regarding caste, creed and religion.
