LAHORE - Excise and Taxation (E&T) staff was thrashed by transporters at Ring Road when the former were on duty to check token tax of the vehicles plying on the road, said an E&T officer on Monday.
He said that E&T has filed an application with local police to register a case and police was raiding to arrest the accused. As per details E&T team including Nadeem Mohayudin inspector, Khizar constable and Waqar were present on service road of Ring Road in Baghbanpura police limits when they intercepted a dumper driver and asked him for documents of token tax. Driver who failed to produce documents concerned made a telephone call to his accomplices to help him. In the meanwhile other dumper drivers and tractor drivers also gathered at the spot. All the drivers were arguing with Excise team when more than 15 peoples riding motorcycles reached and started thrashing E&T team members and disappeared from the scene.
After interrogation it was revealed that those peoples were sent by one Umar Khan owner of dumpers and tractors. Excise staffers received injuries in the scuffle and were rushed to hospital.
Other staffers Anees Chohan, Waqaas, Kashif, Yasir and Rana Liaqat also rushed to the spot. Director General, Excise and Taxation contacted senior police officials and put the matter into their notice. No FIR was registered till the filing of this news item.
