ISLAMABAD - Unseeded Farhan Mehboob lifted the CNS International Squash Championship 2013 title after brushing aside top seed Nasir Iqbal 3-0 in the final played at Roshan Khan/Jahangir Khan Squash Complex Karachi on Monday.

Talking to The Nation, Farhan Mehboob said: “It was a big moment in my career, as critics had long written me down and out and said my days are over, but now I proved all my critics wrong by defeating the top seed Nasir and that too without any major difficulty. I must thank head coach Jamshed Gul for spending a lot of time with me in the training as it was his hard work which paid off. Another motivation behind me was my father Mehboob Khan who also spent day and night with me in the courts to polish my game and skills.”

“I have started the final on a mission that I wanted to prove a point, which by the grace of God I have achieved. I played the first game with great confidence and won it 11-6. This first game win boosted my morale and I played with more passion and playing superb tennis won it with the same 11-6 margin. The third game was comparatively much easier than me as I played with utmost ease and won it 11-5, thus lift the title in only 36 minutes,” he asserted.

Farhan further said: “I am happy that the performance in this event is one of the bests in my entire career and I have not trained much before the event. I have to play the likes of Danish, Farhan Zaman and now Nasir Iqbal, but I managed to show outstanding skills against the three tough opponents and won the title.”

“The federation should arrange camps on regular basis as we have to participate in the PSA events. The top players must be bound to attend training camp and play against each other, as it will be in great benefit to the players to get much-needed practice playing against top lads,” he added.

“I would love to win titles for my country and for this purpose, I will prepare very hard in the courts under the guidance of head coach Jamshed Gul and regain my fitness and above all much-needed mental and physical toughness. If I manage to get back into rhythm, it is my promise the day is not far when I will win major title in the PSA circuit, a feat not witnessed since long,” Farhan concluded.
