NAB chief, former DG FIA get clean chit in NICL case

ISLAMABAD  - National Accountability Bureau (NAB) finally issued clean chit to its own Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry and former Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Malik Iqbal in NICL case, sources told The Nation on Monday.
Similarly, the NAB executive board meeting (EBM) approved further investigations against former Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Khushnood Lashari, Nargis Sethi, Rauf Chaudhry and Sulamn Ghani in NICL case, the sources added.
According to details of NICL case, an investigation has been ordered against abovementioned individuals who were identified in the inquiry and allegedly misused their authority to create hurdles and hamper the investigation of NICL case.
In the case of Pakistan Steel Mill (PSM) against Mueen Aftab Sheikh, former chairman PSM, Sameen Asghar, former director commercial PSM, and Rasool Bux Phulphoto, former managing director PSM and others, the accused allegedly misused their authority and took illegal gratification. Price Fixation Committee of PSM is alleged to have reduced prices of miscellaneous items (billets, hot rolled, cold rolled and galvanised products) to favour 63 firms, which caused a loss of Rs 1.235 billion to the national exchequer.
The acting chairman NAB also decided to authorise two more inquiries against officers and officials of ministry of law and justice, ministry of finance, and ministry of water and power. The accused are alleged to have wilfully delayed the Nandipur and Chichokimallian projects resulting in the loss of approximately Rs 113 billion to the national exchequer. Former Law Minister Baber Awan would be answerable to NAB in this case due to delay on his part, the sources added.
The NAB EBM authorised investigation against officers and officials of Trust Investment Bank Limited (TIBL), a non-banking financial institution based in Lahore. The accused are alleged to have misused their authority to cause loss to the national exchequer.
