Town Municipal Officer Munir Ahmed has advised the traders to sell out commodities at the prices fixed by the administration, warning that profiteers and hoarders would be dealt with sternly.

He paid several surprised visits to the local markets and imposed fines amounting Rs39,000 to various shopkeepers who were found overcharging. Those create artificial dearness will not be tolerated, the TMO said at his office. The delegation was led by Traders Association President Abdul Sattar. He said that the administration was making an all-out effort to ensure the sale of items at prices fixed by the Government.

The TMO also directed the president that the shopkeepers and small vendors display price lists at prominent places to avoid fines. He said that raids for checking prices in markets will continue.

ELECTIONEERING: After about two months interval, the electioneering for local bodies elections has been started while the process of collection and submission of nomination papers has also begun.
