Three layers security plan directed for Christmas

Islamabad - Following the recent terror threats, Regional Police Officer Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja has ordered three layers security for all churches, educational institutions and public parks on the eve of Christmas.

He also directed the police officers to prepare a map of Rawalpindi city while highlighting hot spots and to establish a joint control room to monitor the activities of suspects and outlaws. He also ordered police to implement ban on weapon display in the region.

The RPO issued these directions while addressing a high-level meeting held in his office to review security arrangements made by police to shield churches and schools on eve of Christmas on Saturday. The meeting was attended by City Police Officer Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, SSP CTD Malik Jamil, SP Potohar Division Syed Ali, SP Rawal Division Behram Khan, ASP Murree Ayaz Umrani and SDPOs. Similarly, DPOs of Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal participated in the meeting through a video link.

All the police officers briefed the RPO about steps they took to provide foolproof security to minorities on eve of Christmas besides guarding churches.

Addressing the meeting, RPO Wisal Fakhar said that sharpshooters should be deployed on high roof buildings located near churches in the city to take quick action in case of any terrorist activity.

He asked the SPs of Potohar and Rawal Divisions to draw a map while highlighting the locations of churches and positions of Quick Respond Force. A joint control room should also be set up with personnel of all intelligence and LEAs to monitor the activities of criminal elements, he said.

He asked the police officers to enhance patrolling in their areas and to keep a vigil on suspicious ambulances, vehicles without authorised number plates besides checking them properly.

RPO Wisal Fakhar asked ASP Murree to evolve a special security plan to maintain law and order situation on the Mall Road in Murree on occasions of Christmas and new year night.

“All the churches located in Murree should be checked properly while officials should also be deputed in private dresses on Mall Road to keep an eye on suspects,” he said.
